Inclusive Reading Club (IRC): Reflections on Life in America

Ask yourself, what does being an American citizen mean to you? We ask you to not only reflect on this but to join us in reading short essays from those negotiating the American landscape and sharing their cross-cultural experiences. They include Jade Chang, author of The Wangs vs. the World; Joy Cho, founder of Oh Joy! products; Geena Rocero, Filipino American supermodel, TED speaker, and transgender advocate; and Bambadjan Bamba, award-winning actor, filmmaker, and immigrant rights activist.

We’re reading “How to Center Your Own Story” by Chang, from the book, The Good Immigrant: 26 Writers Reflect on America, edited by Nikesh Shukla and Chimene Suleyman. From America Ferrera’s collection of essays American Like Me: Reflections on Life Between Cultures, we’ll read the book’s introduction by Ferrera, and essays by Cho, Rocero, and Bamba.

Join us for our Inclusive Reading Club (IRC) November 19 virtual discussion at 4pm on Reflections on Life in America. Register and acquire the readings at https://salve.libcal.com/event/7020680.

Display by Gretchen Sotomayor, Special Programs and Instruction Librarian, and IRC co-moderator.
